About Us
Our President, CEO and Chief Engineer, Don Greenfield, has turned an interest in miniatures into a lucrative retirement enterprise. First a member and then president of a local miniatures club, he designed several small kits for fellow club members.
A miniaturist knows the value of her or his collection and wants to protect it. Don responded to a concern of fellow club members to protect their treasures by learning to construct clear acrylic covers and bases, customized to the size and shape of the treasure.
The reactions of the folks in the club to his various endeavors inspired Don to make his kits and covers more widely available by participating in miniature shows. Greenfield Creations was born.
It keeps growing.
Greenfield Creations have been available at over thirty shows, as far west as Chicago, and in six states on the east coast as well as by mail order. Half a dozen clubs have enjoyed Don’s personal touch when he visited them and conducted classes assembling his designed kits. If you are interested contact us for arrangements for Don and one of his assistants to visit your club. Also, Greenfield Creations has a large, well-equipped workroom which will accommodate at least fifteen persons. If your group elects to take advantage of this opportunity we will give a 10% discount on all purchases, including custom-made covers.
From acrylic covers Greenfield Creations has expanded to the design of display cases for vendors. Do you have a need for a specially designed display case? We will design and build to your specifications.
Greenfield Creations provides superb quality in craftsmanship and materials. Contact us to fill your needs, whether it be protective acrylic covers or elegant display cases. And don't forget our unique kits.
Don Greenfield, our esteemed leader, and Sara Shenefelt, chief cook & bottle washer, are members of the Cottage Industry Miniaturists Trade Association, Inc., (CIMTA); the International Guild of Miniature Artists, (IGMA); and the National Association of Miniature Artists, (NAME).
We attended NAME's 2005 National Houseparty in Pittsburgh, PA, in July. The houseparty theme was All Across America and attendees were asked to donate table centerpieces illustrating works of American authors. We choose a novel, The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. This was a natural choice, for the story is about a young boy who survives a disaster at sea where most of the vividly-described action takes place. It was "natural" because Don's artistry in creating natural-looking water using acrylic and resin just gets better and better. (See "Something Different" under the web page menu.) We were thrilled when, of the ninety centerpieces donated by NAME's individual members and clubs, our The Life of Pi centerpiece was chosen to be placed in NAME's museum in Carmel, Indiana, to commemorate the big annual event. Sara wrote to Mr. Martel, via his publisher, to tell him what we had done and, more thrill, received a personal, hand-written letter from him. This is what he wrote:
The pictures, of course, are of our centerpiece. After the centerpieces were delivered the brown bit, (you can see it in the lower right hand picture), was covered to look like the back binding of a book, with the title and the author's name thereon. Are we proud? You bet! That's why we're bragging here.
Miniature art is a wonderful hobby with something in it for everyone, providing outlets for a variety of skills using every kind of material for the craftsman and unlimited avenues to explore for the collector. Enjoy!
